My wife and I are now the owner of a 1987 MB 190e 2.6.  This is an interesting car.  The term "Baby Benz" is most fitting as it really is not a full size Benz yet the car has many of the traits of it bigger cousins.  This car is fast handles well and is generally fun to drive.   The big problem is that it is small.  You are not cramped when driving but you know that it is not a big car. there is plenty of room for two but the back seat is useless for anyone that is over five feet tall.  I drove a 560sel for several years and going to the 190 series has been quite a change.

If you are mechanically inclined the MB is easy to work on.  Most things are replaced as components or assemblies once you understand the German engineering principal of car design/assembly you will probably find that you like working on your MB.

Comments to date:

If you have to change the heater core it is a REAL pain.  You have to take the entire dash out of the car.  It took me two days.   There is nothing really hard about this just allot of disassembly.  While you are in there I recommend changing the heater blower motor. Also change grease and oil all the air-box components.  Lastly change all the bulbs in the dash as you have it apart.

I installed new rear shocks (performance oriented Tokiko (sp) )  These made a world of difference in the car.  I can not wait to install new ones in the front.  The car handles like it is on rails.  A little bit of overseer but I like that.

I have installed new Kumo all season tires that are great!!!!   I have driven them in rain and snow with no problems.

1987 Mercedes Benz 190e 2.6, Black with Gray interior 219K miles. This car is quite peppy. It has the 2.6l inline 6 cylinder motor. The interior and exterior are typical of car that is 16+ years old. Known problems: Cruse control has never worked since I have had the car, power antenna will not completely go down and some times the radio volume will not turn down. The driver side rear window does not operate at all. It is stuck in the up position. It could also use a tune up and or the fuel injection adjusted. There is a little rust at the rear of the rocker panels on both sides other wise the body is in great shape considering its age. I have installed the following. New Kumo all season radial tires, new heater core and new rear shocks new tie-rod end. This is my wife’s car. I got it for her 2 years ago but with a growing family it is just to small for us. It has been reliable and is a lot of fun to drive. $975.00 Firm. Call nights between 7:00 and 9:00 PM at 781-259-1508 or during the day at (cell phone) ???-???-????.
